Home Sunday mid morning!

Just realized that I have not updated the blog as we got Jonah onto the Pediatric Floor on Friday.

Once again, Jonah showed us how truly resilient he is! He took his pretty slow the rest of Friday, but by Saturday morning he was up in his wheelchair drumming his heart out.

This is the only x-ray I have so far of Jonah‘s new hardware. He has such a tender heart. He got very emotional when he found out that Dr. Rocchi had used some additional donor bone to stabilize everything. He kept asking if he could please visit with the family who lost a loved one and tell them how much he appreciated the gift.

He kept everyone in stitches as he shared all of his quirky words of wisdom with anyone who would listen.

Jonah truly lives to drum! That is what pushes him to withstand the discomfort and to just keep going.

We had very much enjoyed having Grandma Raine helping us through this journey. It will be hard to say goodbye tomorrow evening.

I’ve had a terrible cough for the last month or so.  I finally got sick of it today and went to urgent care and found out I have bronchitis.  Hopefully I’ll be feeling much better after a few days taking antibiotics.

If any one local wanted to drop off a meal this week or next I would gladly accept!!!

All settled in room 14

This sweet boy of mine is all settled in.  He’s a pretty happy camper now that he’s in his own room with unlimited access to goldfish, pancakes with Nutella, ice water, and drumming games on his tablet.

The PACU was quite an adventure today. Jonah quite nearly proposed to Dr. Rocchi as he came out of the anesthesia. He was was a real smooth talker!

Thank you for your support and prayers!

Progressing

I just got another update from the OR. They are progressing nicely. They have added some screws and are preparing to place the plate.

1 hour into surgery

The nurse called about ten minutes ago and said that everything is going well so far. They started the actual procedure just after 9:00 and we can expect another phone call around noon.

Surgery #2 has begun.

Jonah was wheeled back for surgery at about 8:20.

These x-rays were taken yesterday at his 2 week post op appointment. It’s no wonder that his pain has stagnated. Poor guy! Jonah is such an inspiration! After a very brief cry upon hearing the news that they had to redo the surgery, he has been calm and confident. He has been asking everyone he comes in contact with to pray for him. Love this kiddo soo much!

Keep checking back as I will as updates as I get news.

Not Again!!!

At Jonah’s 2 week post OP appointment yesterday it was discovered that one of the screws in his pelvis has broke loose and has fractured the bone it was attached to. It requires surgery to repair. The surgery is going to be today I plan to add updates here as often as we get more news.

Super Star Rocker!!

I know it’s been a few days since the last post. Our apologies for those checking back every day to find nothing. Tuesday we took Jonah out for an adventure. That proved to be a little much for the little man. Swelling started and he has been chilling ever since.  He received a few get well gifts, his favorite by far has been….  Drum sticks. He has been drumming either in his tablet or his practice pads ALL DAY LONG!  We have to force him to take breaks when he starts to fall asleep. Much like a tired baby falls asleep in the high chair.

His humor remains the same and finds the funny side of things when he can. His pain is manageable as long as he remains in his pain meds. We have been able to decrease from 2 every four hours to 1 every eight hours or so.

He is starting to sleep more each night. Last night he had a solid 6 hours before the pain woke him.

The big worry the last few days is when is his stomach going to wake up and start moving things along. With no bowel movements in 3 days we began to worry and called in the experts. He is getting back to regular now so that worry has passed. The rest of the family is doing well. We had a cousin come down for a visit. Jonah gave the typical 3 minutes of entertainment and then asked if he could be excused to drum.

David, grandma, & I decided to tackle a project today in replacing a shut-off valve. It went well until it didn’t. The valve replacement was smooth. Then the thought of maybe we should replace the one next to it now while we have made a hole in the sheet rock. That proved to be the wrong decision!!  That project sprung open faster and harder than a spring snake shooting out if a can!!  To keep the story short, three trips to the plumbing store, and an additional three to Home Depot and 7 hours later the valves are replaced with no leaks!!!

Jonah was a trooper through it all as the noise levels were kept at a minimum. Especially when he needed to use the bathroom. He pleasantly reported that he could poop in peace!

Love you all!!  Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers!!!
